It had only been a few months since Seleen and Shuda had left on their honeymoon. Eros was still staying with Venis, much to her surprise. She had expected him to have headed out already. But apparently he thought she needed him here with her, and he was right. Were it not for Eros, Venis might have been going stark raving mad already. There was so very much going on around her and she was getting that out of control feeling again.
She could feel the death surrounding her more and more regularly. Something or someone was killing off the mythical beings. It was mostly vampires, which upset her greatly. Something, or someone, else was killing off animals, great numbers of them. Mostly small little cute and cuddlies from the surrounding forests, but in some cases it was cattle or other farm animals. Her own Keep was missing several heads of cattle and a great number of smaller animals. She could feel the presence of something, but she couldn’t get a fix on it and she had no idea why.
She racked her brain day after day trying to figure it out. She was trying to figure out what was killing the animals, what was killing the mythicals; she just couldn’t quite put her finger on it for quite a while. And the longer she went without solving this mystery, the harder it got to figure out. But after a while, the ones killing the animals messed up. They had left behind some evidence, an unfinished meal that had not been properly disposed of. It was the work of vampires. They had gotten taken by surprise by something or someone and had left their meal unfinished.
So was it the killer, or killers, of the mythicals? Did a few extra vampires having a little more food warrant such a thing? But it wasn’t only vampires, mostly vampires, but there were a few lycanthropes missing as well. And Venis knew they were dead. Other beings as well, though not even as predominantly as the lycanthropes, let alone the vampires. Perhaps the extra vampires and the extra feedings were in response to the deaths of the mythicals, perhaps the vampires were trying to strengthen their numbers in self-defense. It made sense to Venis. And it was a blurry line as to which started first, the extra vamps or the missing mythicals.
These were the thoughts that plagued Venis day and night. It didn’t matter which started first, it didn’t matter who was in the right or in the wrong. All that mattered was that Venis was a God of Rhy’Din and this was her mess to clean up. She had to make sure that the extra vampires remained on a mostly ‘vegetarian’ diet. And she had to stop the killings of the mythicals before it got out of hand and innocent mortals got caught up in all this mess. But her ‘vision’ was clouded and getting worse. It wasn’t Eros. He was always so careful to make sure that nothing he did while he was around her would interfere with her work.
So as she was spending another sleepless night in Eros’ arms she worked to clear her thoughts and try to see through to the answer. Eros hadn’t been noticing her lack of sleep other than the slightly exhausted look she wore upon her face every day. He seemed to attribute that to the physical exertion, at least if he suspected something else, he wasn’t saying so to her. He automatically adjusted his body heat to hers whenever they went to sleep. It wasn’t even something he thought about. So if her body temperature didn’t drop as low as usual, he wouldn’t notice. She was able to lie still as he slept; she’d had years of practice. So it was as if she were asleep with him.
But this night was different. She knew it was as soon as he closed his eyes and she pretended to fall asleep as well. It was different because she had figured something else out. She had figured out part of her distraction, and it was in her personal life. This was very bad because her personal life was never supposed to keep her from her duties. So she ran down the list of issues. Kahn being at home rather than with her was a distraction, easily solved though. She would just go see him. Casie and the twins still staying at the Tel’Ranaemyn Inn distracted her. She could fix that with a simple relocation, she would move them up here to be closer to her and therefore safer.
Those were two of the biggest distractions that she had. Others included her children being spread out to the four corners of the world and beyond. Dre she could go see. Alex, well she would probably have to see him from afar at this point. He had gone so deeply into his own mind in her absence that she hadn’t had a chance to help him before he fell in with what was, in her opinion, a bad crowd. Terran, she could go visit him at college. At least to the best of her knowledge she could. But Krys, that was another story. She had no way to get a fix on her daughter. There was some unknown force blocking her. Maybe even Krys herself, but not for the reasons that Venis would be thinking.
When you add to that the fact that her best friend, her furball, was still not in his right mind as of yet ... He had not quite recovered well from his latest ordeal. He was a bit of a vampire hater himself at the moment. She found that out at the wedding. But none of these things that were going on around her were him; he wasn’t out poaching or anything. He was stronger than that. Venis knew it wasn’t him. Plus, there had been a presence at the Tel’Ranaemyn not too long ago. It was a dark presence indeed, but it posed no danger at the time that it was there. So Venis had let it slide.
What she needed now was to be stronger, both mentally and physically. And there was only one way for that to happen. Her body needed nutrients that it didn’t get from blood wine or animal blood. Sometimes she needed nutrients that could only come from fresh, pure, human blood. But it needed to be something quite rare. Any blood would give her an energy boost. But this time she needed a little more than just the energy boost to carry her over for a few months. No, she needed the type of energy and strength that could only come from one place … Virginal blood.
The sweet nectar that is virginal blood had not crossed Venis’ lips in over two hundred years. Not since she had become a God. But desperate times called for desperate measures, and she was willing to sacrifice one or two to save the lives of hundreds of thousands. After all, if you count both killing of animals and the killing of the mythicals, then you take into consideration the innocent mortals who were in danger of getting caught in the cross fire, hundreds of thousands was a safe number to consider. So it was time to do something about this.
So she slowly slipped from Eros’ arms, and out of bed. She went over to her dressing table and picked up her metal bikini that her son had made for her. She popped open the container of baby wipes and pulled one out. She closed the lid then used the wipe to wash her bikini off before she put it on. Then she walked over to her armoire and pulled out a leather dress to put on. It was black leather and had little red flames all over it. It was strapless and short, with a little slit in the sides. Her shoes that she pulled out were black platform stilettos with flames up the sides of the platforms and the heels both.
She looked over at Eros, he had moved, but was still sleeping. She stifled a giggle knowing that he didn’t really need to sleep anymore than she did. It was just one of those things that they did for the well being of their physical bodies. She headed out of the bedroom and down the hall. When she reached the end of the hall, she stopped and placed her right hand on the wall as she put on her shoes. Her hand brushed the black felt cowboy hat that hung there. She looked up at it. She had been meaning to move it, feeling it needed someplace safer to be. Midnight could reach it where it was. But as she looked at it she thought about its owner. Her life had been so different a year ago. She shook her head and headed out the door.
She didn’t take the time to go downstairs and out the door. She didn’t bother with taking some type of transportation to town. No, she simply poofed there. It would be harder for someone to find her if they weren’t looking for her carriage or a unicorn. Not that she could ride in her dress. But she had more than one reason to not want to be tracked easily. After all, if there was someone out there killing the mythical beings, its better that she’s alone. And if that presence that she felt in the area were to come back, again, better for her to be alone. Plus, if the new vamps in the area decided to come out to play … Yes, alone was best for this hunt.
So now there was the question of location. A night club is not the best place to find virgins. But just up the road was a book store with a coffee house attached to it. This time of the night, the only people there are the types who have a lack of social life. And a lack of a social life usually means a lack of a sex life. There was a good chance of finding a virgin or two there. So that was where she headed. She walked in the door and headed to the counter. She ordered a coffee and went to find a book to read. She picked a title that was sure to draw even more attention to her. Then she sat down at a table, crossed her left leg over her right, cracked her book, and pretended to drink her coffee.
She could feel the death surrounding her more and more regularly. Something or someone was killing off the mythical beings. It was mostly vampires, which upset her greatly. Bernie saw the red-head sitting over at a table by herself. She was reading and playing with her coffee absentmindedly. She didn't seem to like the coffee too much, and the book seemed to be boring her too. He found it rather amusing, such a woman in a place like this. But then it occured to him. Women that georgous never existed in real life. So he figured he would approach her.
He got up from his seat and walked over to her table. "So, who's lab did you come from? Was it Brooks? He's always bragging that he's going to make the perfect woman some day. Though, I would have gone with a brounette. Red-heads are too sensative to the sun. I'm Bernie, what designation were you given?" He offered the woman his right hand.

Venis looked up from her book. She smiled at the man as he spoke. She listened to him talk and had to stop herself from giggling. He thought she was created in a lab. That was actually quite a compliment. So she listened to his whole rapid comment before she took his offered hand. Her designation, that almost made her loose her composure.
She gave his hand a bit of a strong grip, something one would expect from a man, not a woman. She gave his hand one good shake before she released it. Her movements were almost mechanical, which was exactly what she was going for. "My name is Venis, Bernie. Charmed to meet you." A normal person would have said pleasure. Who said the Goddess couldn't act?
She motioned with her hand towards an empty seat at her table hoping he would join her. "I do not know Brooks. I have never seen one. I have not seen many things. But I read of them in books. And yes, I do not spend a lot of time in the sun without sunscreen. But you would prefer my hair brown? I can change it." She smiled at him again.
She sat the book down on the table next to the coffee with the receipt for the coffee as the book marker. She tilted her head as she looked at him. He wasn't too bad looking. And besides, looks were not exactly what she was going for tonight. She was looking for purity, and he smelt strongly of just that. She could hear his pulse racing from his proximity to her. That sweet copper smell was intoxicating.

Bernie smiled when she said 'charmed to meet you' rather than pleased to meet you or simply charmed. It added further merit to his theory that she was created in someone's lab somewhere. So pleased with the handshake he took the offered seat and set his own coffee on the table. His book had been balanced on top of it. So he moved it from the top of the cup to the table.
He looked over at the lovely red-head with a smile. "Can you really change your hair color? I would love to see that." He had to ask. He was curious about what else she would be able to change if she could truly change her hair color. Of course, he hoped she meant instantly, not go home and dye it like a normal woman would. That would take a while.

Maddie couldn't sleep. As usual she was restless. She had been having alot of restless nights lately. With everything that was going on with her father she couldn't sleep. Their relationship was strained to put it mildly. The saving grace in her life right now was Andrew. Just being around him made life much brighter. This night however, that would not be enough.
Maddie went to her closet and slipped on a pair of blue jeans and a black tank top. There was a bookstore she had been wanting to check out in town, so she went to the stables and got her horse Swifty, and headed to town.
It took her no time to get to the book store. She tied Swifty to a nearby post and went in. With any luck, she would be able to find a book on how to deal with shape shifting psycho parents.
She entered the book store and started walking down the isles, seeing if anything popped out at her. She went down several isles and nothing caught her attention. She started to make her way down the isle that had the books on Christanity, near the coffee shop in the store. These books were always amusing to her for the simple fact that she knew there was not just one God, but many Gods and Goddesses in the universe. The story of the snake tricking the woman into biting the apple, she found very funny.
As she made her way to the end of the isle she heard a familar voice. She popped her head around the corner and saw Venis talking to some poor geek. Judging from the fabulous dress Venis was wearing she was hunting Poor boy, he doesn't stand a chance. Even as a child Maddie had always loved to watch Venis hunt. Most people would find that odd, but Venis had very much been apart of her up bringing, and growing up around vampires and watching them hunt and feed, seemed to be perfectly normal. Venis however did it with a certian flare that Maddie admire.
So Maddie picked up a random book and made her way to a over sized chair a little bit away from the coffe shop, but where she could see and hear. She sat down in the chair,opened the book, and preteneded to read as Venis and this boy talked.

Venis didn't even look up or flinch when she felt Madeline enter the building. If anyone she knew was to walk in, it pleased her that it was Madeline. For not only would she not blow her cover, but she could come in quite handy. The idea's were coming to Venis as Madeline walked around the bookstore, before Madeline had even seen her. By the time Madeline would come into view, Venis would have her plan well figured out. She just had to wait.
While she was formulating a good plan in her head, she still needed to entertain Bernie. She looked at him. "I shall show you then" She closed her eyes and her hair started to get darker. It became a rich chestnut color. The brown started at the top of her head, at the roots of her hair, and flowed down like a waterfall. It didn't stop until the full length of her spiral curls were brown. All the way down to where they fanned out behind the chair on the floor.
Madeline sat down in the chair and Venis chose to not smile about it. It might blow her cover. She chose to continue her conversation with Bernie while she also conversed with Madeline through a mental link. "Do you like? I could change other things if you so wish." She hoped that Madeline wasn't closed off to her at the moment. ~Madeline my dear, so good to see you. Would you care to be my {1} partenaire dans le crime tonight?~
She waited for them both to reply to her. And while she did, she took a sip of her coffee and fussed with her hair a little. They would have been normal human fidgets, but she was pretending to be a lab creation. So her movements seemed more robotic. She lacked that certain smoothness and grace that she usually possessed. She was even blinking differently. It was all part of the illusion. She wanted to laugh about it so badly.

Bernie watched Venis change her hair color right before his eyes. His mouth fell open a little as he watched. He hadn't noticed until he watched the color change just how long her hair really was. She had very long legs and a long body in general. He was guessing that she was somewhere around six feet tall. He was six foot five himself. Tall and lanky was what they called him.
He smiled when he saw the smaller brunette walk over to the chair and sit down. He figured that she was just another pretty woman who had come to buy a book. So his attention was immediately drawn back to Venis. "Can you change your skin tone too?" He felt the need to ask. He thought the rest of her was already perfect. But the very pale complexion was too light for the sexy hair.

Madeline as always had her mind open to Venis. Outside of being family, it was her duty to be at the Goddess's call. Upon hearing what she had asked, and seeing her new hair-do she couldn't help but giggle.

Venis' hair matched Madeline's rather well. And it seemed to make Bernie rather happy. So he wanted to see her with a darker skin tone as well She could accommodate him. If she could keep from giggling out loud for the comment from Madeline. She was most definitely Gawain's daughter. She shared his goofy sense of humor, amongst other things. "Tell me when to stop." She watched Bernie as she began.
Her skin began to shade itself. It was an all over transformation, not like the cascade effect she had used with her hair. It was like watching a cookie bake. Bernie watched as Venis' skin grew darker. He waited until she looked like she had a nice golden tan. "Perfect." His voice seemed to sound rather hushed as he spoke. He hadn't expected that to happen, but he was breathless from her beauty. He stared at her for longer than was probably appropriate.
He was having so much trouble figuring out what to say next. But he had to think of something, he couldn't just sit and stair. So he looked away and to her book. It was a romance novel. That gave him an idea. "Do you like romance novels? Or was it something about the book itself that caught your eye?" He figured that would get a conversation going.

Maddie liked the prospect of helping Venis hunt. She had noticed the boy behind the counter had been staring at her boobs for the better part of thirty minutes. Judging from the way he was drooling and the fact he was cute in a Doogie Hauser kind of way, made him the ideal target.
Maddie put her book down and walked past Venis and victim number one, and went to the counter. She leaned over the counter at an angle where the clerk could get a slightly better view.
She smiled sweetly at the clerk. "Excuse me kind Sir, but I was wondering if you could help me. I seem to have lost my wallet outside. It must have slipped out of my pocket, and I was wondering if you could help me look for it. I'm sure you have a flashlight behind the counter."
Maddie saw the clerk grin great big, and grab the flashlight, and start to head from behind the counter. "My name is Maddie. What's yours?"

She tried not to laugh when she saw Madeline get up and walk over to the kid behind the counter. He melted like butter in her hands. He was such an easy mark. And speaking of easy marks, she had her own to contend with at the moment.

The problem was, Bernie had never 'had the sex' with anyone before. He wasn't sure he would be able to do it good enough for her. Venis took his hand and rose from her seat. She let him escort her from the building. They started to walk off in some other direction. Away from where she knew Madeline was with her mark. She didn't want to get too far from them. She heard Madeline in her head. ~Thank you Madeline. I will be with you shortly.~ She gave Bernie's hand a slight tug.
She wanted him to stop walking, they were hidden from view. "This is a good place, yes? In the book they were in a place like this. I want it here." She hoped he wasn't trying to take her back to his place or something. Luckily, he did stop. She made sure that she looked him in the eyes before she leaned in to kiss him. The kiss was deep and a little forceful.
He would have felt a little bit of a euphoric feeling as they kissed. His body would seem rather numb. She had rolled his mind before they kissed. She wasn't trying to hurt him. As they kissed she let him feel the passion that would have been there had she been trying to make him her lover. Her hands wondered up and down his back as she kissed him.
With her heels she was slightly taller than him. But not too much. She broke the kiss and kissed her way down his neck. She got to that sweet spot that was just over his jugular. He smelt of hormones and testosterone. It was only a little less appealing to her than the sweet coppery smell of his blood. She could smell it running through his veins.
She opened her mouth wide and sank her fangs into his flesh. Once she punctured his jugular she withdrew slightly. His blood was so sweet and pure. She could tell that he hadn't done any drugs or anything in years, there was no taste of them in his blood. Hid blood was hot and sweet as she swallowed it down slowly. He began to get heavy.
He passed with little more than a couple of moans and a gasp. Well, that and a very well placed eruption of his pleasure. The wet spot was definitely larger by the time she was done with him. She drank from him until there were only two drops of blood left in him. Then she picked his body up and threw it over her shoulder. She carried him back to building.
She went behind the building where Madeline was with her virgin. She laid the body down quietly. Her heels clicking on the pavement would have alarmed him to her presence, so she levitated as she moved towards the pair. ~Madeline, I need you to look in his eyes. I have to be in your peripheral vision. I need you to be able to see us both at the same time.~
She knew Madeline would understand her. So she moved and waited for a signal that Madeline saw them both clearly. She was going to help Madeline roll his mind so that she could feed from him. She was feeling strong enough from the first meal that she would be able to do this with minimal effort. She just hoped that Madeline wasn't spooked by it.

Madeline could feel Venis's presence, and understood the instructions given to her. It was her pleasure to do so. Outside of her time spent with Andrew, this is the most fun she had in a while. Luckily, Warren's back was behind Venis.

Warren was kind having a scrupples moment. On the one hand he wanted to look more for her wallet, but on the other he was enjoying her touching him. Venis knew Madeline could see them both clearly. So she looked into Madeline's eyes and used them to convince the prey that he was in Heaven. That he was about to have the greatest experience of his life. He was lost in Madeline's eyes and had no idea that his eminent death awaited him behind his back.
As he stared into Madeline's eyes Venis came up behind him and tilted his head. She leaned down and sank her fangs into his jugular. He did gasp for air slightly as the big pulse in his throat was punctured. And as his gloriously sweet blood flowed down her throat Venis wrapped her arms around him.
She held him tightly as she drank him down. And he became heavy. She couldn't see if the terror ever showed in his eyes, though she doubted that it did. Most people didn't come out of having their minds rolled by Venis. When she was done, she gently laid him on the ground.
She looked over at Madeline with a smile. "Thank you for the help. It took a lot less time this way. I will let you use your vanishing spell to get rid of these bodies, if you don't mind. And I have a gift for you for all your help." She leaned down and placed a tender kiss on Madeline's forehead.
The kiss lingered for just a moment. It would have tingled a little, but then it would have filled Madeline with a warmth that consumed her. The after effect would come when it was needed. Madeline would have as small reserve of power to use when she needed the boost. It was the least Venis could do.
She smiled at Madeline. "Use that wisely, it's not something to play with whenever you feel like whooping your father furry behind. It's for emergencies. And it will only last for about seventy-two hours. But it's not in a row unless you need it to. It's like a tank, you take some, the rest waits to be used."
She looked up to the sky and sighed. "I have to get back. Eros will be waking soon. Will you come see me tomorrow? I have some problems to work on, and could use the help." She gave Madeline a hug and then slit a portal into the air beside them. She stepped through it and was at the Inn.
